Make Your Own Breaks - Points to Ponder

The thing with taking some leave days is that on the first day you decide to sort out all your documents that have been lying all over for the whole year. Well I finally started my long awaited 2 weeks leave days and figured out, "let me deal with my clutter!". In the process I came across these notes I made about 12 years ago and decided to share them as I found them so relevant to my life today. This is about making my own breaks, from Tom Morris' book "True Success: A New Philosophy of Excellence

1. Define your goals - the quest for success always begins with a target

2. Seek out those who know more than you - plan to network with those who know more than you

3. Pursue your vision with stubborn consistency - the biggest difference between people who succeed and those who do not is not usually talent but persistence

4. Make an emotional commitment - without a deep commitment, it is difficult to pursue a dream

5. Review and renew your goals

Do these make sense or is it just one of those so called wisdoms that are spewed at us by motivational speakers and writers?

  1. I do think these points have some wisdom in them. Especially number 2. I believe that seeking out those who have more wisdom, knowledge, or are better skilled in an area you want to delve deeper into is crucial. I say when you meet someone like that, ask and ask!:)

There are other things that could be added here depending on the individual but basically yes, determine what your goal is and then what you have to do to achieve it!:) I think a reminder is always helpful.

These nuggets of information are definitely practical. But whether they get into our head is another matter. Sometimes the human species do need motivational guidelines as the ones you have given but solely depending on them for everything is a bit dangerous.

    Joy always,
    Susan

    P. S: Due to Blogger going kaput, I've lost many comments. Sad but that's technology.

  3. Well, I can tell you two that make sense to me, mainly because I apply them and I've seen the wisdom therein.

Pursuing your vision with stubborn consistency:- Deciding to do something, and not giving up even when results aren't clear in the beginning is what makes the difference between starters and non-starters. You trip alot in the pursuit of your vision but hanging in there and forging ahead is what matters.

Make an emotional commitment:- Without this, your sights will always be set onto the next vision. Telling yourself that you are in something for the long haul and meaning it, now that's commitment.

Sidenote:- Hehehe. Now that dude's emotional commitment to seeing 3 women a week? Ahem. Moving on swiftly! :D

  4. Susan, I agree...personally I am so selective of such as I also believe in the power of miracles and the unexpected. You cannot have rules for everything. I think we all suffered from the blogger outage. I thought I saw a comment from Colleen here but it is now missing!

  5. Carolkmail - I also like the emotional commitment part, sometimes I have actually been distracted from what I have set as a goal because another lucrative goal has appeared!

  6. Very helpful, they may seem simple on the surface but in reality they are really deep and hold true...

  8. I think the most important is to make an emotional commitment. Without that nothing can be achieved, I used to start and stop things, only when I committed myself did I succeed.

    Thanks for the notes Otieno.
